Sessile Serrated Adenoma or Sessile Serrated Polyp is a type of polyp that can lead to colorectal cancer. These polyps are different from conventional adenomas since in many cases, cancer develops from mutations that begin with inactivation of the APC gene. To detect this type of adenoma is someone’s body, a procedure called colonoscopy is needed. Once it has been confirmed that it is indeed an SSA, treatment can be given immediately. There are a few differences between an SSA and a traditional colonic adenoma. The former doesn’t usually go through nuclear changes. Many believe that sessile serrated adenoma is the cause of many cases of colorectal cases. It is called serrated because it has a unique jagged appearance.
